Heilung : Ofnir

I made this fanart in a manner of 2-3 days. It is inspired by Heilung's music and their album "Ofnir".

The figure represents a shaman of a carving (possibly) from the Stone or Iron Age. Ofnir (Old Norse: Ófnir) is one of the names of Óðinn and it means "Inciter". I very much enjoyed drawing this and blasting Heilung's albums in the process, so the drawing is very much imbued with Magic and Sorcery. The whole process had actually a sort of a meditative feeling to it, and I just let myself to be totally absorbed in the music and "carving" and coloring the lines, and in the end, the pencil and the pen did the rest.

Heilung is an experimental folk band made up of members from Denmark, Norway and Germany. Their music is based on texts from artifacts of the Iron Age originated by the Northern European peoples and the Viking Age. They describe their music as "amplified history from early medieval northern Europe". Much of their artistry is derived from Germanic gods and goddesses. "Heilung" is a German word meaning "healing" in English.

Heilung was founded in 2014 by Kai Uwe Faust, a tattoo artist specializing in Old Norse tattoos, and Christopher Juul and Maria Franz of the trio Songleikr and the progressive rock/pop-rock band Euzen. In 2015, the band released their debut album, Ofnir, in self-release.
According to Faust, the name of the band "Heilung", healing in German, says something about the style of the band: "The listener is supposed to be left at ease and in a relaxed state after a magical musical journey that is at times turbulent". The recordings of the band are not limited to music, but also contain poems.
The references to the early ages of humanity is also made by using texts from historical artifacts or historical poems. The languages used are varied, with German, English, Gothic, Latin and Iron Age Norwegian dialects being used.
As instruments, items are used that may have been already available to humans in the Iron Age, such as drums, bones or spears.

Heilung is sounds from the northern european iron age and viking period. We used everything from running water, human bones, reconstructed swords and shields up to ancient frame drums and bronze rings in the songs. The lyrics contain original texts from rune stones and preserved spear shafts, amulets and other artifacts. Furthermore poems, which either deal with historical events or are translations/ interpretations of the originals. Every attempt to link the music to modern political or religious points are pointless, since Heilung tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offsprings raped and burned itself into the northern european mentality. Heilung means healing in german and describes the core of the sound. It is supposed to leave the listener eased and relaxed after a sometimes turbulent musical journey.
