Alright soooooo……
This is going to be a rather nerdy post (yes meaning exactly that), so I need you to be patient with my annoying OCD and just bare with me in general, ok? This post took ages to write (couple of weeks in reality), to think through and finally realize into manifestation. As I said OCD. Pvre fvcking essence, right?… So I am here to annoy you all with a Tabletop RPG that I now hold in very high regard. This game is not the holy grail of tabletop gaming, but it’s the philosophers stone of rare artefacts in these fields. Mörk Borg isn’t only a DOOM METAL album of a game as advertised. It’s also a BLACK METAL album of a game with vey prominent occult and pagan elements and it packs a really heavy punch!! This game is the ultimate OSR example and it should be regarded as one of the best carriers of the tradition. Eternal Hails……

So I have (finally?) got my hands on a copy of the Dark Souls of table-top roleplaying games, the underdog cousin of Dungeons & Dragons and the doppelgänger shadow friend of Darkest Dungeon, that being the one and only MÖRK BORG OSR (old-school renaissance) RPG from Sweden! Ever since I first saw this game (big shoutout to the gentleman behind the “Lore by Night” YouTube channel), I was immediately sucked by its unique artstyle, setting, characters, world building, writing and above all else, its creative and punchy graphic design. Mörk Borg translates from Swedish roughly as “Dark Fort” and that perhaps is the coolest name in TTRPG history in most recent years. So I sharpened my rusty dagger, dressed up in my robes, drank a mana potion and ran off to Amazon (UK) to look for the cheapest copy in existence, and I soon discovered that “they” only had a Swedish version of the game, so I ordered that and here I am with this bad boy in my hands. Mission accomplished (thanks Fria Ligan!). In case you’re wondering what the hell I’m on to, well, I read the entire game on a PDF in the mighty english language before that, and I got familiar with what this game is all about, with its mechanics and lore and everything else, and I very, very, very, very, very, very badly wanted a hardback physical copy of it and not only because of the game itself (or to stand on my shelf with the rest of them D&D rulebooks), but because of the fantastic graphic design and artstyle. I cannot possibly stress enough how FVCKING mind-melting and important this style is to me and how much I enjoy seeing such direction being one hundred percent operational. Language wise, the copy I have is in Swedish, and this my dear lads and lasses also means that now I going to enjoy the game and at the same time enrich my vocabulary and knowledge of the beauty of the Swedish language, and it’s actually pretty TRVE to have it in its original language. I don’t know for a better way to pay a homage to its creators. Those who know my work and philosophy, will perhaps (well at least partially, because you don’t really know me) be aware that I always had an interest in the Scandinavian languages and I without any shame love, appreciate and admire, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and last but not least Icelandic and Old Norse. This game is also a MAJOR nudge at Nordic themed concepts, forgotten folk tales and occult archetypes from a Scandinavian (Swedish) perspective, and it isn’t only a gritty one-on-one SVART metal-esque and DOOM metal-ish punch (or flail) to the face, but it really is a plus for me personally as an artist and I embrace these aspects. So, all this absorbing of Eldritch horrors, aesthetics and unholy magicks and sorceries launched me into creating my own MÖRK BORG inspired (unholy) character sheet and it took ages to make it right. Actually took me most of yesterday and today (02.09. and 03.09.2023). Insane attention to detail. InFVCKINGsane man, I kid you not! (wiping sweat off face). So I am now also sharing it with the rest of you adventuring nerds, metal heads and dusty occultists in the hopes (as always) that you might get inspired too and make your own OSR, D&D or MÖRK BORG related artwork, (maybe mark your body with a tattoo or print a poster for your mancave) or content. The game is heavily open to mods by the way, so please go nuts!! The devs of the game are actually encouriging that. You can read more on ther official website. https://morkborg.com/
I chose the Esotetic Hermit class, (because why not) and I went full-on from head to toe with the whole aesthetic and vibe.
Now keep rolling those D20s and have fun!! In the end of the day, this is what its all about. The game also doesn’t take itself too seriously and this can be felt while roleplaying.
